How to Identify if Samsung Galaxy is Original or Clone

7/23/2017

Samsung Galaxy phones is one of the most popular lines on the market these days. Unfortunately, some manufacturers are always ready to create cloned Samsung phones that looks like the original. So, if you just buy a new Galaxy and you’ve doubts about its authenticity, then don’t worry, there are several methods of discerning a fake Samsung Galaxy phone. Useful of these methods I’ve shared below.

How to Identify if Samsung Galaxy is Original or Clone

1. Use Samsung Kies

If you’re having a hard time to recognize your Samsung Galaxy if it’s fake, then you can use Samsung Kies to check it. You can follow the steps below for detailed instructions.

  1. Download and install Samsung Kies on your computer. You can download Samsung Kies from its official website (link below).
  2. Once the installation process finishes, plug your Samsung Galaxy phone on your computer with USB cable.
  3. When your phone is plugged, Samsung Kies will recognize your phone and it’ll display your phone’s name and its firmware version. If Samsung Kies fails to recognize it, reboot both your phone and your computer, and then try connecting them again.
  4. If Samsung Kies fails to recognize your phone again, then your phone is likely fake version.

2. Use Samsung Codes

Samsung codes are combination of numbers. When entered, will allow you to access some developer tasks. The table below I’ve shared the most common Samsung codes.

ItemCode
SW Version, PDA, CSC, and Modem *#1234# or *#9999#
SW & HW Info *#12580*369#
General Test *#0*#
Service Mode *#197328640#
ADC Reading *#0228#
Bluetooth Test *#232331# or #7828#
Bluetooth Address *#232337#
Ciphering Info *#32489#
Battery/Memory Status *#9998*246#

To check using these codes, open Dialer application and enter these codes. Your phone will respond a command as soon as you finish dialing the code.

For example, if you enter *#0*#, your phone will display several square buttons on a white background. If it doesn’t, then your Samsung Galaxy is probably a fake version.

3. Check IMEI

Another easiest method to check if your Samsung Galaxy is original or fake, is to check its IMEI number using IMEI checking websites. You can find the IMEI number of your phone by dialing *#06#.

If your phone isn’t showing the IMEI number, then your phone is probably fake. However, some fake Samsung phones can show the IMEI number, so you’ve to verify this number online by following the steps below.

  1. Write down the IMEI number since it’s not possible to copy and paste.
  2. On your browser, go to the IMEI website at http://www.imei.info.
  3. In the IMEI website, enter the IMEI number and click on Check button.
  4. Now, you should see the information about your phone also the word of “Samsung”, but if you don’t or it displays information different from your phone, then your phone may be fake version.

We hope this article would help you to find out if your Samsung Galaxy is or original or fake. If you’ve problems with any of the steps in this article, please post in the comments section below. If you really found this article helpful, then share it to your friends.
